Welcome to Food as Medicine Global

Uniting Agriculture and Healthcare to Support Food as Medicine for All!

Our Why

The idea of food as medicine resonates with many in health care and food production. Nutrition is increasingly integrated into health professional training, patient care, and discussions around farming, fishing, ranching, and other food systems. However, people across many communities who want to eat well cannot access healthy or even enough food. Many of those producing and providing our food and health care navigate a multitude of inequities.

Join us in supporting a more equitable and inclusive food as medicine movement!

About Us

Uniting Agriculture and Healthcare to Support Food as Medicine for All

Agriculture broadly defined for a diversity of food ways to include farmers, foragers, fishers, subsistence hunters, ranchers, wild-crafters, pastoralists, forest producers, and more.

Healthcare broadly defined for a diversity of health ways to include all those engaged in health and healing practices.

We are a Community Supported Network (CSN) sustained by the people who believe in it and benefit from it. Our work is primarily supported by individual members, along with aligned groups and organizations, who contribute resources, care, and active participation to help the network thrive.

Together, we are cultivating a vibrant, growing global community where farmers, farmworkers, agroecologists, health practitioners, school food advocates, gardeners, urban growers, fishers, foragers, ranchers, food pantry workers, subsistence hunters, healers, hospitals, clinics, educators, students, wild-crafters, cooks, consumers, pastoralists, forest producers, and many others learn from one another and work toward crating more sustainable, resilient and community-led food systems worldwide.

Activities Include

  • Hosting an Annual Conference and other events for continued cooperative engagement and information exchange.
  • Supporting an Online Community Site for members to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and collective learning.
  • Stewarding the Food as Medicine Global Resource Directory to increase awareness, collaboration, and engagement to benefit individuals, communities, and the planet.
  • Producing the Nourishing Communities video series, showcasing diverse rural, urban, and suburban farms and permaculture sites to highlight agroecological practices and local food systems.
